My intersectional identities as a black woman, artist, sister, daughter, aunt, niece, and American, inspire the work that I create. I use a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, digital, and fiber, to explore the experiences I have due to my identities and the impact that those experiences have on my mental health. With art being my expressive form of therapy and mindfulness, creating these works allow me to find clarity and healing about events/situations happening in the world and in my personal life. Some viewers may share similar intersectional identities or experiences that will ignite feelings of nostalgia or empathy, while other viewers may gain a new perspective that challenges their own thoughts or feelings. Either way, by sharing my experiences and inviting viewers into my mind, I’m hoping to create a vulnerable and intimate space for them to connect with my pieces on a deeper level.
My name is DaJaniere Rice and I’m a multidisciplinary artist from Inkster, Michigan. Art for me at times is playful and give me space to relax and practice self-care. While other times, art is more of a tool I use for deep reflection and introspection. I graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2017 with a BFA in graphic design. Currently, I’m a full-time graphic designer and artist residing in Michigan. With my business, Janier Co., I enjoy hosting paint parties, painting murals, and doing design projects for small businesses.
